Gifts of Stock & Securities

You may contribute stocks, bonds or mutual funds and enjoy a tax deduction equal to the current market value of the donated asset, regardless of its original cost basis. This way, you benefit from your income tax deduction while the gift prevents possible capital gains tax. All gifts of securities are sold in a timely manner by the Fund's broker.

Gifts of securities may be made in three ways.

  • Through a broker
  • Via mail
  • By hand

Through a broker

A donor may direct his or her stock broker to transfer specific securities to:

Monica Clark, Chief Financial Officer
Hanna Boys Center
P.O. Box 100 Sonoma, CA 95476
ph: 707-996-6767
fx: 707-996-4795

In order to recognize the donor and the gift, Hanna Boys Center needs to be informed directly about the transaction; otherwise, the gift will be listed as anonymous. Please contact the us at 877-994-2662 or 707-996-6767.

By mail

A donor may send the stock certificate via registered mail to:

Monica Clark, Chief Financial Officer
Hanna Boys Center
P.O. Box 100 Sonoma, CA 95476
ph: 707-996-6767
fx: 707-996-4795

The certificate should be endorsed to Hanna Boys Center and signed by the owner(s) identified on the front of the certificate. No signature guarantee is necessary because a properly endorsed certificate cannot be transferred to another party. Hanna Boys Center forwards these gifts to its broker.

By hand

A donor may deliver an endorsed stock certificate directly to Hanna Boys Center. Prior arrangements should be made with Development Director Kris Van Giesen.

The donor should be sure Hanna Boys Center is advised of the intended purpose of the gift at the time the gift is made. The Center's tax identification number is 94-1156478.

Our Mission

Hanna Boys Center relies solely on private donations from individuals, private foundations and local corporations. Over 20,000 individual donors contribute to HBC every year. HBC does not solicit or accept funds from any government or public funding agency, nor from the Catholic Church.

What is perhaps most remarkable about Hanna is that it has been wholly self-supporting since 1949, receiving no monies from either government agencies or the Catholic Church.

Hanna Boys Center has been fortunate to have a succession of talented board members who have provided astute oversight of the Center’s endowment, allowing the Center to draw approximately $7 million dollars in annual operating expenses. Without this expert financial management, Hanna Boys Center would not be able to provide its services to troubled boys and their families for little to no cost at all.

It is important to note that in side-by side comparisons with organizations that provide similar services, we stand nearly alone in the very high percentage of dollars, more than 80% of all money spent utilized in education and care for those who attend school and live at Hanna Boys Center.

All donations are fully tax-deductible as allowed by IRS guidelines.
