Academic Advising

The Academic Advisor meets with every student at Archbishop Hanna High School and completes a School Success Plan (SSP) form, which includes high school graduation, career, work and college planning, as well as academic goals for the current school year. These three forms, Initial Intake Report, Entrance Data and School Success Plan, are available for all school staff and HBC staff (caseworkers and childcare staff) and provide very useful information during Treatment Plan Review meetings. Treatment Plan Review (TPR) meetings are held at least two times each school year to review and update the treatment plan for each boy. Additionally, goal setting and planning for the future have helped the boys to focus and achieve in school with higher expectations.

The Academic Advisor performs the following services:

  • Tests each student who enters Hanna Boys Center to assess their academic abilities in math, reading fluency, spelling, and comprehension.
  • Counsels each student to create class schedules that meet their academic needs and progress toward graduation.
  • Guides senior students in planning their future pathways, filling out college applications and meeting financial aid requirements (FAFSA).
  • Recommends students who need additional educational testing services.
  • Coordinates and communicates with Sonoma Valley High School and Hanna group homes to assure the success of students attending SVHS.
  • Sets up independent study programs for students needing additional credits toward high school graduation
