Phoenix Program

Hanna’s substance abuse prevention program, commonly known as the Phoenix Program, supports the entire campus with direct service to over 30% of the youngsters in Hanna’s program who have either immediate or family experience with substance abuse. The Phoenix Program is directed by one of our caseworkers, Mr. Craig Fraser.

The Need: Over the last several years, we have seen significant rise in the number of families with substance abuse related problems seeking enrollment at Hanna Boys Center. More than 30% of the youngsters in Hanna’s program have challenges related to substance abuse (direct or within the family) and 20% of those seeking enrollment have direct difficulties with substance abuse. Many times, both the youngster and his family have difficulties in this area and they act as co-dependents, enabling each other to continue their destructive behavior.

Through this treatment program facet, we are able to provide education, counseling, prevention, and support for those boys and their families faced with substance abuse issues so that we can continue to ensure that these youngsters receive the care and nurturing to heal. We are fully committed to giving them the help they need to become healthy responsible young adults and contributing members of society.

Prior to the Phoenix Program, Hanna did not have a program to treat youngsters with substance-related problems. Once enrolled, youngsters who continued to have substance abuse issues were dismissed from our program and boys seeking enrollment in our program were not accepted. The success of the Phoenix Program has been substantial.
