Applying to Hanna

Thanks for your interest in Hanna Boys Center.

As a leader in trauma-informed care, our high school and residential treatment center are built to provide young men a positive path forward in life — one that helps them overcome past trauma, breaks the cycle of familial patterns, and leads them toward future success.

Coronavirus Update

Due to the mandatory shelter in place order in California due to COVID-19, we are unable to provide tours of Hanna Boys Center at this time. But we’re still working to accept applications for the 2020-2021 school year, and are here to answer all your questions. Watch the quick video from our admissions coordinator, James Thompson, for more information on how we’re approaching applications at this time.

Who’s a good fit for Hanna Boys Center?

Students who choose to attend Hanna MUST show a level of desire, motivation, and resilience in order to put forth their best effort in making positive changes in their lives.

Every student admitted to Hanna must be:

  • 13 to 18 years old

  • in the 9th to 12th grade

At Hanna, two key ingredients will be critical to your success:

1) your personal motivation
2) your family’s willingness to work with you and our staff

We serve motivated boys who experience:

  • ADHD/ADD and other learning disabilities

  • Oppositional defiant behaviors

  • Anxiety

  • Depression

  • Other mood-related diagnoses including bipolar disorder

  • Anger and frustration management difficulties

  • Motivation to leave gang associations behind

Families are also required to have a high level of involvement in their child’s placement, including attending parenting groups, family therapy sessions and allowing home visits. Boys must agree to stay one full school year.

All the boys who come to Hanna are placed directly by themselves, their families or their guardians, not by probation or social welfare departments. This gives Hanna staff the flexibility to respond to cases of critical need.
