We honor you in our thoughts and prayers for all the youth you help support for a better tomorrow. My parents were immigrants from Ireland. My mother died when I was only a year-and-a-half old, so my brother and I were raised by our aunt and uncle. They became our family, making sure we got the love and care we needed to grow and succeed. After graduating from Sacred Heart High School in San Francisco, I went on to the University of San Francisco. There I met Don Feehan, who later became a board member of Hanna Boys Center. Don inspired me to get involved with Hanna because it’s a model that works. It gives young men a chance to overcome unstable, abusive or neglectful situations so they can go on to lead normal lives and realize their full potential. Looking back, I see that my life has been blessed. I’ve worked hard and my business has been very successful. I started out as a C.P.A. and later a partner in Fantasy Records, which represented Credence Clearwater Revival in the 1970s. Later I became a partner with the Saul Zaentz Company, which produced three films that earned Best Picture Oscars (One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest, Amadeus and The English Patient). Today I split much of my time between family and giving to organizations that make a real difference. Hanna Boys Center is one of those organizations. I know that through my giving to Hanna, I’m directly supporting the next generation — young people who have faced overwhelming obstacles — to be the best they can be. It’s not a handout — they still have to work to succeed — but thanks to Hanna they at least get the opportunity. What could be more satisfying than that?
