In this role Tom oversees all fund development—annual fund, major giving, planned giving, foundation grants, events, campaigns, etc.—as well as Hanna’s marketing and communications program.
Tom has over 15 years of diverse experience in the areas of corporate business development, nonprofit fundraising, educational leadership, and teaching and coaching. Prior to joining Hanna Boys Center, Tom was President of St. Vincent de Paul Schools, a K12 program in Petaluma, where his decisive leadership led to renewal and growth and secured financial stability. Tom also served as Director of Development at De Marillac Academy, an educational and family service nonprofit that serves low-income residents in the Tenderloin neighborhood of San Francisco. He has also served on the board of directors of the Justin-Siena Foundation and the Sonoma Valley Health and Recreation Association and currently serves as a volunteer youth sports coach in the Sonoma Valley. Mr. Coughlan received his bachelor’s degree from the University of California, Santa Barbara, as well as a master’s degree from the Kalmanovitz School of Education at Saint Mary’s College, where he was named a Lasallian Educator Fellow. He earned a certificate in nonprofit fund development from the University of Notre Dame – Mendoza College of Business in addition to pursuing post-graduate educational leadership studies at the McGrath Institute, University of San Francisco.
